SUMMARY:The Ecosystem for Research Networking Summit
DESCRIPTION:Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center\, 300 S. Craig St.Pittsburgh\, PA 15213 \n\n\n\n\nPRESENTATIONS\, REPORTING & PAPERS FROM THIS MEETING\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nERN Summit 2024 Agenda (all times are EDT) \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nERN Summit 2024 Presenter Bios \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Ecosystem for Research Networking (ERN) Summit provides the scientific and cyberinfrastructure research community an opportunity to come together and discuss ERN mission and accomplishments\, hear from domain researchers and CI professionals at smaller institutions about the successes and challenges related to leveraging local\, regional\, and national resources for projects\, and learn about funding resources and partnership opportunities\, as well as regional and national communities. There will be open discussions and conversations on focus areas and policies as they pertain to areas of community interest including AI\, quantum\, Big Data\, cybersecurity and protecting data\, research instruments\, workforce development\, education and training. The ERN is interested in the democratization of research instruments and gaining a better understanding from the community during this summit will be important as we move forward with future projects. \n\n\n\nThis year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Jim Martin\, NSF Equal Opportunities in Science and Engineering Committee member\, and Vice Chancellor for STEM Research and Innovation at the University of Pittsburgh. There will also be several NSF program directors participating on the “Role of Funding Agencies” panel on our first day\, and there will be a ERN Cloudlet installation workshop on day two. \n\n\n\nERN CryoEM Remote Instrument Access – Cloudlet Installation workshop \n\n\n\nThe ERN CryoEM Remote Instrument Pilot Project is developing a secure\, easy to use\, web-based portal for federated access to remote scientific instruments. The ERN Cloudlet implementation provides an Open OnDemand portal for scientific instrument access\, workflows utilizing edge computing and advanced analytics through either local or remote cluster resources like Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center.  This three hour workshop will introduce this developing project\, and participants will learn how to install\, configure and customize an ERN Cloudlet on a FABRIC node slice to access a simulated scientific instrument. Concepts covered will include security\, containers\, containerized Open OnDemand\, authentication methodology and CILogon\, workflows through applications\, edge-computing\, ansible\, data management\, user namespace\, FABRIC nodes\, and cluster resources and access. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nERN Summit 2024 is supported by NSF CC* CRIA grant (OAC-2018927)
